US sticks and UK blocks
In the US, butter comes in 1-pound boxes of four 4-ounce sticks, and each wrapper is marked in tablespoons. One stick is ½ cup, 8 tablespoons or 113 grams. In the UK and Europe, butter is sold in 250-gram blocks, which is about 2.2 US sticks or just over 1 cup.
Salted or unsalted?
Bakers usually use unsalted butter so they can control the salt. If you only have salted butter, reduce the added salt by about ¼ teaspoon per stick (113 grams). Salted and unsalted butter weigh the same.
